Jaguar

Pros
Jaguar's 2011 XF, with its sleek, coupe-like shape, sport-sedan performance and stunning interior, competes very well with models such as the BMW 5-Series, Lexus GS 460 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It also boasts higher-grade materials such as those available in more exclusive vehicles. And like other Jaguar models, the XF promises a uniquely British personality compared to other luxury cars. High-performance versions add even more sport to the XF, making it a serious performer among world-class tuner sedans from both BMW's M division and Mercedes's AMG shop.
Model Highlights
Jaguar XF models are equipped with one of a range of 5.0L V8s, offered via three trim levels: XF base and Premium models sport 385 horses from the naturally-aspirated version, while Supercharged versions get a 470-horsepower version and the XFRs receive one that produces 510. Even in normally aspirated tune, the XF has strong acceleration on par with some of the fastest German sports sedans. According to Jaguar, the standard XF can accelerate to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, while the top-of-the-line XFR can do it in just 4.7 seconds. The XF's gear selector uses a unique rotary design that Jaguar claims is intuitive and also saves interior space; it includes a Sequential Shift System, which enables the driver to command gear shifts of the 6-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddles. With what is, according to Jaguar, the best torsional stiffness in its class, the XF is able to offer impressive handling and performance while also allowing a smooth and well-controlled ride. Variable ratio power-assisted steering offers reduced effort while parking plus better control at high speed. Supercharged and XFR models sport special tires, brakes and trim, as well as Jaguar's Adaptive Dynamics suspension system. The XFR also adds quicker steering, 20-inch wheels and unique exterior styling. The interior departs from the typical luxury-car mold with a new design direction. As with other Jaguar models the XF uses high-grade materials, including supple leathers and a striking matte-metallic finish. The XF also features real Satin American Walnut veneer, offset with aluminum highlights. Air conditioning vents are completely flush with the dashboard until the ignition is switched on, when they rotate to an open position, overhead console lamps operate through a special touch- or proximity-sensing system, and the interior is bathed in cool blue lighting at night. There are numerous storage compartments inside and front cup holders are large enough for a 44-ounce beverage cup. The available top-of-the-range, 440-watt Bowers & Wilkins Premium Sound System has been specifically designed for the XF's cabin; it has surround sound processing, 14 speakers, a remote amplifier and Kevlar speaker cones. The XF's audio systems are fully compatible with portable audio players or USB memory sticks. An extensive list of electronic driving aids is offered on the XF, including anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and cornering brake control. The electronic stability control system includes Understeer Control Logic, which decelerates the car and helps restore grip in extreme maneuvers or in the loss of traction. The XF's dynamic stability control system offers two different modes, including a "Trac DSC" mode that allows more slip before intervening, for more enthusiastic driving. XF models also offer a winter driving mode. A Portfolio Package, offered only on the XF Premium model, features special softgrain leather with contrasted stitching and unique trim colors, a premium suede headliner, 16-way driver and 12-way front passenger climate-controlled seats, heated steering wheel, rear sunblind and 20-inch wheels. Available high-tech features on the XF include front and rear parking aids, a blind-spot monitor, adaptive cruise control and voice-activated controls for the navigation system and hands-free calling interface.
Model News
For 2011, the Jaguar XF sees few changes, though the 300-hp 4.2L V8 in base cars has been dropped in favor of a 385-hp 5.0L V8. New exterior colors include Caviar and Polaris White, as well as Stratus Grey and Crystal Blue. The XF now sports an optional heated front windshield, while run-flat tires have been discontinued
