Lincoln Navigator

Pros
The LINCOLN Navigator is a large, luxury sport utility vehicle that competes with the Cadillac Escalade. The standard list of features is extensive and augmented by a long list of options. The large SUV design of the LINCOLN Navigator means cargo capacity and available 4-wheel drive make a very capable vehicle that is also among the most luxurious rides available.
Model Highlights
Lincoln offers two trim levels for its large SUV: the Navigator and the Navigator L. Both feature a 5.4-liter V8 engine that makes 310 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque -- enough to tow up to 9000 pounds. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is optional on both models. The LINCOLN Navigator has six airbags to protect all passengers, including bags that deploy from the headliner on both sides of the vehicle. The AdvanceTrac stability system has Roll Stability Control to apply the brakes and reduce the engine's power if the wheels start to slip and it controls under- and over-steer to minimize skidding and fishtailing. This system works with Lincoln's Trailer Sway Control to give the driver more confidence in the LINCOLN Navigator's handling, even with a couple extra thousand pounds behind the rear bumper. Like many Ford and Lincoln vehicles, the LINCOLN Navigator uses Microsoft's SYNC voice-activated operating system. It works with Bluetooth devices, like cell phones, as well as USB drives and MP3 players. Helpful services like a Vehicle Health Report and turn-by-turn directions are also available through the SYNC system. Parents of new drivers will appreciate the MyKey feature, which allows one of the keys to be programmed with restricted driving capabilities. The top speed can be limited to 80 mph, and chimes can be set to go off as the needle passes 45, 55, or 65 mph. MyKey works with the BeltMinder system in the LINCOLN Navigator to keep the audio system from getting any louder than 45 percent of its maximum capability. And if anyone decides not to bother buckling up, the BeltMinder alert cannot be disabled and the stereo is muted until everyone clicks in. Standard equipment for both models also includes power-deployed running boards, rear-view camera, dual-zone temperature control, memory seating, multi-function steering wheel, THX surround sound, heated and cooled front seats and power-folding third-row bench seat. Options include a dual-headrest DVD system, moonroof, 20-inch wheels and a heavy-duty towing package.
Model News
Not much is new for 2011, but the LINCOLN Navigator did get a few upgrades to the standard equipment, such as voice-controlled navigation with SIRIUS Travel Link and HD radio. The Trailer Sway Control feature now works with the Roll Stability Control system. The LINCOLN Navigator is a FlexFuel vehicle capable of using E85 ethanol/gasoline blend.
